Hi-Point in their "User Manual" warns against leaving the pistol loaded unless your going to immediately shoot it, so I will never go against the recommendations of the Manufacturer.
Follow what Hi-Point Recommends!
Speaking "Only for My Self" I would carry "MY" "PERSONALLY" "OWNED" Hi-Point pistol loaded with safety engaged after ensuring it was 100% mechanically sound and maintain properly. I would train engaging and disengaging the "SAFETY" only if I where immediately going to fire the pistol until it becomes second nature. If your not going to immediately fire the pistol in a defensive situation then leave the safety on and the finger off the trigger! Many seem to always kick the safety off once the gun leaves the holster but this practice is unsafe and a liability in many ways. "LEAVE THAT SAFETY ON" until your 100% ready to fire the pistol. With that said everyone should strictly follow all safety practices and procedures that the manufacturer and the NRA set forth for safe gun handling.

Rnd. in the chamber when out of the house. Chamber a round when I leave, and clear when I return. All in the privicy of my garge. Why would u carry conceled any other way? You may not have time to chamber in todays outdoor environment. But if someone breaks into your house you'll likely hear them comming and have the time.

1 in the chamber safety on in a holster that covers the trigger and protects the safety! After watching the interview with a gunfighter vid I am sure he would not have had time to rack the slide taking the safety off is much easier and only requires one hand!

[fade]One in the Chamber, Safety On, Magazine Inserted . As I draw it I can release the safety with my thumb if I need to .So that by the time I bring it to bear, it is ready for my trigger finger.[/fade]

Same as the rest; one in the tube; magazine inserted and safety on.
However, if I keep 8 in the magazine I frequently get a jam for the 2nd shot; or when I go to rack the slide and put the first one in the chamber.
My C9mm is still pretty new; only fired 200 rounds or so; will this problem go away once broken in?
Is there a better quality magazine where I wont have this problem?
I am using Remington 9mm Luger 115 Gr. Jacketed Hollow point (L9mm1B) for practice. Would a heavier, longer bullet , stop this from happening? For normal carry I will use a better quality ammo, and heavier bullet. What would be the best, most dependable load to carry for self defense?

One in the chamber, safety engaged and another round added to the magazine.
For many years, the policemen of Germany, France , Switzerland, and other European nations carried their pistols in this same manner, recognizing the person carrying the weapon to be the 'ultimate' safety. They typically went years without an 'accidental discharge'. Several police weapons had NO safeties, particulary in France...
While here in the States, due to the 'over-emphasis' of the use of a 'safety' to make the weapon 'safe', there are literally several hundred 'accidental' shootings every year...
Remember... ALL weapons are loaded; ONLY aim it at something you want to destroy; and then, and ONLY then, squeeze the trigger.
