So how bout what do you shoot?

I run 90 grains fff (real black powder) with a 140 grain 44cal horaday hollow point in a 50cal sabot. alot of my freinds say this it to light a round and not enough powder. well last night three of us were hunting the both run big rounds and 150 grains both of them missed the same deer at 75yards and then at 135yards I took the final shot and dropped her at exactly 214yards...........whos laughing now (even i was impressed with my self and my luck)

Nice shootin'. How do your friends like the taste of crow? I use 100 grains of 777 powder and 295 grain Cva Aerotip Powerbelts or 80 grains 777 and 245 grain Powerbelts depending on the situation. Most everyone I know shoot the same thing. (I paid for their powder and powerbelt samples) But you like what you have so don't change it. The "sweet spot" in most ML is between 70-110 grains. 100 percent of the powder is burned inside the barrel giving you optimal bullet stability and velocity. The lighter bullet is going to shoot a lot flatter which is win win. 150 Grains of powder is a little too much for most bullets to be stable as far as accuracy and just because the ML can handle a "magnum" charge doesn't mean that is best. Your buddies need to spend more time at the range.

The two band Springfield .58cal I had shot its best 100 yard groups with 60grs FFFg under a 405gr Mini Bullet. This load and gun took a number of whitetail and a few hogs and didnt hurt to shoot at the range.

My .50 Hawken shot best with 70grs FFg and a patched round ball. The .50 New Englander did its deeds with 75grs Pyrodex RS and a patched round ball.

Only rifle I ever had to liked charges over 85grs was one of the Bobcat .50cal's, one shot excellent with 95grs Pyrodex RS or FFg Goex and a patched round ball with felt wad between ball and charge.

I need to find a place where the deer stand around and wait for three people to take turns shooting at them. I would eat better if I lived in that place.

This is a shooting problem and not a load problem. I shoot traditional loads/guns. Take my deer with a TC Hawkin/70gn ff/patched round ball. I been killing deer with that load in that gun since '86. Works fine out to 100yds. My eyes don't work past that so any additional power is a waste.

Its called Michigan come check it out sometime. The reason the deer are not skiddish is cause 1 its private property and has been for about 45+ years. 2 I have a range on the property that is used almost daily, and 3 we feed them practically from our hands the deer are not very skiddish at all. also untill this year i have been the only one hunting the property. anyways we dont really call it hunting its more like harvesting :D

I can't make that trip. I would have to cross all of Ohio to get to Mich and I just can't cope with being in that state for that long!

We have a small town just north of us about 10 miles south of Cinci. called Ft. Thomas. They are having 40-50 deer driver incidents per month. Heards of 20-30 deer roaming the streets and munching the shrubs.

They have declared themselves an Urban Hunting Area. Bowhunting is allowed inside the city limits.

There were several suburban areas that allowed this when I lived down in TN.

I had a farm down there and occasionally I would "pot" a deer with my pistol while they came down to feed on the hay I set out for the cattle. Some would jump onto the wagon with me.
