The Urban Warrior

I recently purchased a Ruger LCP for my wife and offer the following range report.
Though this was purchased for my wife I have shot it a lot more than she has. I’ll break this down into sections.

Fit and Finish
The fit and finish are very nice, the pistol seems to have a factory melt treatment and has no seems or flash marks and the slide seems to be nicely finished. The overall quality appears to be good. Note that this is a 371 (post recall) model.

Accuracy
I can’t say a lot at this time about the accuracy as the sights are miniscule. My wife did have the front sight painted for better visibility when she had her nails done and it does seem to help somewhat. A Crimson Trace laser is in the works and should help with aiming, especially in low light and as a training aid as the LCP has a very long trigger.
This is a SD gun and not made for target shooting at least in my opinion.

Reliability
In a short time I have fed a few hundred rounds through the LCP without a single problem. It shoots, feeds and extracts flawlessly. I’ve fed it a diet that so far includes American Eagle FMJ, Federal Personal Defense JHP, Buffalo Bore FN FMJ and Buffalo Bore hollow points. I’m waiting on some Hornady Critical Defense to try.

Takedown
Takedown is a breeze. Make sure it’s empty, remove the slide pin (very easy to do) and move the slide forward to remove.

Ergonomics
The LCP is very small, thin and light, even fully loaded you’ll not notice it.
The slide racks easily so not a problem for a small woman.
The grip is kind of small at least for my hands.
I have ordered magazine grip extensions and a grip sleeve; I feel that this will improve the comfort as well as the accuracy as I feel the better grip will improve trigger control and thus the accuracy.

Overview
Overall I’m well pleased with the LCP and I am considering another one for myself but first are this weeks upgrades mentioned above and a CT laser sight for her gun.
Note that being a smaller caliber I am somewhat concerned about adequate penetration and for this reason I load her gun for carry with the first round and last round being the Buffalo Bore 100 gr FN FMJ and the other rounds being Federal PD at this time until I can get and evaluate the Hornady CD,

I had the LCP out again today and no problems.

Very nice. I have been wanting to handle one for a while now.

I strongly recommend the Hogue grip sleeve which you will need to trim and the Pearce magazine grip extensions, these two additions make the gun much easier to shoot and control thus more accuracy.

Thanks for the report. My buddy bought one for his wife recently. I could not believe how light that weapon is. These are very, very hard to get ahold of here in the Phoenix area, but I understand it is that way all across the country.
